The Kirtland-based 235-acre farm-themed park turned 20 years old Wednesday. Since the park opened May 19, 1990, over 2.7 million visitors have participated in the park’s programs.

2-year-old needs 200 stitches after family dog bites him in face

May 19, 2010

By News-Herald staff

A 2-year-old boy needed more than 200 stitches after he was attacked by the family dog Monday afternoon, according to police.

The boy was taken to Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital in Cleveland after the animal bit his face, Willowick Police Lt. Donald Crocker said. He was released this morning after receiving surgery.

The attack occurred in the family’s home on East 323rd street in Willowick.

The boy did not deliberately provoke the dog, Crocker said. He had been walking by the German shepherd-husky mix when it attacked him. It is unknown if the boy accidentally stepped on the dog’s tail.

Mentor had an 82 percent Census return rate and Green Township, west of Cincinnati, had a 86 percent return rate — the only two municipalities in Ohio to rank so high, according to the Ohio Treasurer of State Kevin L. Boyce.

“Our community is in tune with council, our government and how we’re trying to maintain our quality of life,” Mentor City Council President Robert M. Shiner said. “Mentor is one of the best cities, as you know. We’re trying to maintain that.”
